The lovely couple that runs Zachary's went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We will definitely be back. Thanks for the great meal.
I 've visited this restaurant a few times since having a cottage on Kawagama and each time I leave feeling disappointed. I keep giving them another chance but every time is the same. The food is edible but way overpriced, and the service is usually slow and unfriendly. Although today we did have a nice friendly server. The owners have always been miserable and coincidentally each time I 've gone they 've been on personal calls fighting with someone on the other end (strange). Today there was a young man hanging around chatting with another group of teens, swearing and talking openly about their partying over the weekend. I think he worked in the ice cream part of the store so maybe he was on a break. My daughter and I went to browse in the little gift shop beside the restaurant while waiting for our food and once again the owner was on a personal call arguing about something and when she got off it was very clear to me we weren 't welcome in the store. We said hello but she responded asking if there was something she could help us with and when I said no thanks as we were just browsing she told me my daughter needed to stop touching the manican. I will be the first person to correct my child 's behaviour when needed, but she barely grazed the hand of the manican. This will be my last visit. It 's too bad. This place has a great view and could be a lovely spot for a meal but after reading other reviews I can see I 'm not alone. A consistent theme throughout all the reviews is miserable owners and terrible service. I really hope they read these reviews and maybe some day implement the changes. It costs nothing to be friendly especially when working in the service industry. Either that or just retire and move on.
I was just insulted by the owner of Zachary 's. I 'd been hanging around the nearly empty restaurant drinking coffee since 10 am, but I 'd bought lunch at noon and was working on a laptop for a few hours. At 1pm, she runs up to me and yells at the top of her lungs to me about how 'I 've been there forever and I have to leave '. I can appreciate her concern, but I don 't understand why she didn 't politely ask me to leave because she was running out of space (although she wasn 't). When I asked her why she was being rude to a customer, she told me to Get out while I still can . Basically she went ballistic because I camped out there trying to get some work done. What kind of business owner would treat their customer 's like this?!?
We love this place! The service is outstanding and the staff is super kind and accommodating.
