I attempted to make a room reservation a month ago but they were fully booked. I was in town for a wedding and was excited to discover that they had a restaurant. The food was tasty, the portions were generous, and our server Noelia was fantastic. The owner's mother, Cheryl, also took the time to chat with us and showed us around the hotel, pointing out some hidden gems. We will definitely return in the future. Make sure to visit this historic landmark in Douglas and treat yourself to a memorable experience.
We have been coming to this restaurant for 3 years, but it seems that there have been changes in management and staff since our last visit. While the food we did receive was still good, the service was lacking. The wait staff seemed inexperienced and had to double-check our breakfast order multiple times. Our pancakes never arrived and the hash browns were undercooked, despite our request for them to be extra crispy. We are unlikely to return based on this experience.
Unfortunately, we will not be returning after being regulars. The manager blamed the front staff for issues clearly related to the kitchen process. The server did an excellent job and tried to help even as other staff blamed her for the kitchen not getting food out correctly. None of us received the salads we ordered, the salmon did not come with the sauce that we were told, and my dinner did not come until almost 20 minutes after the other three in my party. I was especially embarrassed as I chose the restaurant for a business dinner with an executive officer of my work. She ordered beef fajitas and was given mixed fajitas which she specifically said she did not want. When the sirloin came out, the kitchen did not give me my baked potato (they incorrectly placed mashed potatoes) or salad and there was no sour cream on the potato. The steak was more than well done which I had not asked for. It took another 20 minutes for the baked potato to come out and when we left we still had no salad. I was charged $27 for a sirloin steak management offered one free dessert. It was disappointing to say the least that we paid so much well over $100 for half of our food being woefully late or absent.
What a terrible shame that Douglas has to feel embarrassed and travelers will feel disappointed at the utter failure of the new absentee ownership. We stood at the entrance to the restaurant and were ignored by a ?server? who had his nose in a computer across the room. We finally approached him and asked for a table. He motioned but untrained as he is, failed to escort us. We were seated for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes. No one came to the table. Other tables were filled with dirty dishes. We left. Be aware that any positive reviews are probably posted by friends or paid reviewers. Eric! Get your act together! This town and this hotel deserve better.
