I found this very unique restaurant out of desperation. I was in town working and had worked late.....on a Sunday no less. This meant my options to eat ANYTHING were severely limited. Thank God they were open. Because I really didn't want to chance McDs or 10pm gas station gut grenades. To start with the ambiance and decor is crazy cool. It's made up of multiple buildings connected over probably more than a century. One of the girls there told me originally the building was the first grocery store in Wyoming. When you walk in there is an old dinner vibe with a counter to the left and both seating to the right. There's multiple additions in the back that I think include a casino but I'm not quite sure. To the far left is a really cool old school ice cream shop. I was really tired when I came in so I just walked right up to the diner bar and grabbed a menu. I didn't notice at first but this is still a smoking restaurant. Well, as I'm looking at the menu I notice, the waitresses are chain smoking, the other customers are chain smoking. And as an ex smoker, I think they have that right. I just wish it weren't up front. They may have had a non-smoking section but did I mention I was really tired? So I just sucked it up. I ordered a Spanish omelet with hashbrowns and toast. It was good, solid but typical diner food. Not spectacular or anything but good. Great building to check out, decent food and open late in Douglas WY. What more could you ask for?
The Plains Motel has a certain magical quality to it, like a relic or a totem, manifest as a simple collection of rooms in which to lay one's head. There is a warmth, a glow, along with a chill that runs the entirety of the spinal column, the thrill of the two in unison irresistible and altogether enchanting. For a reasonable price, such an experience can be had, and nearby lays the Plains Motel Restaurant, an equally enchanting destination.Should you find yourself in the Douglas area and needing a place to rest your head, fill your stomach, or expand your perception of the ethereal, stop here. ?Noteworthy details: Walk through the Gate to find yourself on a new path.
We were passing thru around dinner time. We weren't sure at first but decided to give it a go. The food was delicious and fresh. I will be stopping again
Ate at the restaurant where smoking is permitted. It's kinda dirty and reaks of smoke. The salad bar is lettuce, mac salad, potato salad, cottage cheese and some fruit (canned). No fixins at this salad bar. Not a tomato or onion in sight. Had the rocky mountain oysters. They were pretty good. Avoid the salad bar.The motel. Dirty. Replaced the batteries in the remote. That now works. Tv doesnt work, outlet doesnt work. Used an extension cord and found an outlet that works. No signal and since the batteries were not in remote, the thing needs to be reset. Has a split level feel to it. A small kitchenette, large fridge, needs a good scrubbing. Old and outdated fixtures, blankets, linens. The AC is on point. Shady chatacters hanging about. Nonexistent wifi. No signal. Staff is kind. Welcoming.Outside, the reason I chose the place, is super western looking. Looks like a little western town and the history of it is pretty cool. Needs a 100% complete overhaul. Probably the worst place i ever stayed. Smoker friendly though. Cost 48$. It is what it is. We'll call it an adventure.Didn't see the ice cream shop or gift shop yet.
