After decades (last time still East Germany) on a spontaneous city trip, I visited this small café on my first day in the so-called Baroque quarter (Barockviertel) Dresden Downtown. And I just fell in love. It's a little hidden, but you can see be made and run with love going for the interior, but also for the variety of cakes made at home to not mention the staff. On the first day I followed the recommended dark cake with consumed coconuts on the top (forgot the name of the cake) and on my second visit to my last day the Gugelhupf (ringcake) with egg yolk and whipped cream on the side. They also serve breakfast, only open 10 a.m., but unfortunately I didn't do it; next time maybe.
We visited the café twice. For the first time, we already have a great contrast between the really good freshly baked cakes and not with all friendly staff, probably owners. We chose a second chance. As we stood before the switch, the waiter/owner came in. The first and only thing she said was: Could you please let me go or something similar, of course in German. Then of course we left. This is the world-famous German hospitality I want to warn you about. If you do not mind being treated as someone who is only allowed to buy food instead of being received, then you expect very delicious cake.
Found this little jewel by chance, just walk around. The cakes looked so delicious and all homemade. Only on the bottom I found with all the coffee shops that open nothing before 10:00 and as a morning man I like my coffee earlier than that.
This teenyweeny Café is hidden away in a small passageway off Koenigstrasse. It offers home-made cakes of great quality, some baguettes and a variety of hot and cold drinks. There are only few seats in- and outdoors. The owner-baker-waitress is friendly. Worth exploring!!!
