We have been to Donnybrook for lunch several times now. The food is excellent, the staff is efficient and friendly, and we will definitely return.
I absolutely adored this pub on Morehampton Road in Dublin. During our time playing pickleball in the Irish Open, we decided to walk back to our hotel from UCD and ended up stopping here for a late lunch on two separate occasions. The Reuben sandwich I had was possibly the best I've ever tasted, even though it was a bit different from the traditional American version with its sourdough bread, pastrami, dill pickles, and Italian cheese. The pub was impeccably well-kept, served a perfect pint of Guinness, and offered excellent food. Additionally, for American visitors, there is a fascinating story behind the area, including the origins of the term Donnybrook and the nearby cemetery.
I had a wonderful dining experience! I highly recommend the fish and chips as well as the apple crumble. The wait staff was very friendly.
It’s ironic that the Donnybrook Gastropub has a large banner asking potential customers to support local businesses, which I’d be happy to do if their food wasn’t so bad. I couldn’t eat the small, flat, cold, rubbery and tasteless mess that tried to pass itself off as for lasagna and for which wasn’t removed from the bill. Eat here at your (expensive) peril, or should I say don’t.
