The meal included Kelly's of Newport thick cut dry cured back bacon, Granby's pork sausages and white pudding, Putóg black pudding, Irish free range poached eggs, slow roasted herbed tomatoes, and Bewley's brown soda bread. It was a new experience for us so we decided to share it since we weren't sure what to expect. While I admit, we didn't finish it, we did try a bit of everything, and I'm glad we experienced it. Also while we were here we ordered The Mary Cake to share which is described as a Bewley's classic since the 1950s including rich chocolate ganache, soft sponge layer dipped in pure Valrhona Ariaga dark chocolate, and topped with a thin marzipan disc. It was perfection! Fun fact: Bewley's donates €1 from the sale of every Mary Cake to the Irish Red Cross. To drink I ordered a Calypso (Tia Maria) boozy coffee cocktail (which had a fun presentation and was also very tasty) to give myself a wakeup as our flight was a redeye and before we left I also ordered a takeaway ginger lemongrass tea. The restaurant was busy just about the entire time we were there, and our waitress was super friendly as well. I kept eyeing the baked good case as we were seated near it everything looked so good but we only had so much room and more meals planned. Maybe next time!
A friend recommended this place and glad he did, with its stained glass windows and bustling crowd. The wait staff was nice, and the tea was solid (though they did not have my fave lapsang souchong available . The scones quite were good, and for 25 euro I think it was a decent value for a small high tea (I think they refer to it as 'Cream Tea ' . Speaking of which, when I asked for cream the waitress pointed tot he clotted creme which was more like whipped cream, though I wanted basic cream like half/half, and they managed to find some. I 'd go back.
The atmosphere of Bewley's is that of an upscale European cafe of years gone by forest green wallpaper with gold Asian inspired motifs accented by magnificent stained glass windows designed by Harry Clarke 1928 combined with the tile floors and wood accents make the interior spectacular and worth 5 stars and a visite alone. The service was prompt and amenable. The food we had was all decent. The portions were ferocious and the quality excellent however not Michelin star. I saw one of their hot chocolates and it was the size of a pint of Guinness. If it weren't for the overall atmosphere I'd rate the food a 3. It was a great time overall and I'd return again for sure.
The reason to go, here is the decor, especially the stained glass windows. The food is average. Mine was prepared in advance, and it sat for a while, so it was cold. The coffee is acidic. The service is great and everyone is very friendly.
Probably one of the greatest restaurants here, Service was great they were very nice. Food here was incredible If I would definitely come back here if I travel again to Dublin.
