Contribuisci feedbackOn the last day of my short vacation in Dumaguete, my cousin and I decided to have lunch at Atong Kamalig restaurant because I was craving for some native Inasal Chicken. The restaurant is located downtown, near the Cathedral. It is spacious, with available parking slots and separate areas for smoking and non-smoking guests. We opted for the non-smoking area with air conditioning due to the humid weather outside. The ambiance was not very appealing, so don't expect too much in that aspect. We ordered garlic shrimp, chopsuey, and Inasal Chicken, which cost us less than a thousand pesos and was enough for two people. The presentation of the food was not very attractive, as it appeared somewhat dry and the prices were a bit on the high side. The taste of the Inasal Chicken wasn't as authentic as I had hoped for, considering we were in the Negros region. I think I will have to visit Bacolod to try the real deal. The wait time was quite long, so I would suggest the restaurant implement buzzers to call waiters since the areas are divided. Overall, my dining experience was average, so I would give it 3 stars. Firstly, the new location is inconveniently far from the city core, making it less accessible for those who used to enjoy a short walk or ride to the old restaurant. This has resulted in a slower lunch trade, according to the staff. Secondly, the food display setup in the old location, where meats, fish, seafood, and salads were showcased on a long counter, made it easier for customers to choose their meal. In contrast, the menu format in the new location is more standard and less visually appealing. Thirdly, while the boneless bangus I ordered was good, it was not exceptional, and the garlic rice lacked sufficient garlic flavor. Additionally, the prices at the new location are higher, which is a drawback. On the positive side, the restaurant offers two air-conditioned banquet rooms for large parties. However, despite hosting events such as birthday feasts and church gatherings, the restaurant is not as popular in the evening due to its remote location from town and lack of nearby dining options. Overall, the decision to relocate seems to have been a poor business choice. Although the new Atong Kamalig restaurant is clean and modern, it lacks the charm of the old location, which was more appealing for small group or individual meals. I do not plan to return as the new restaurant only seems to attract a specific demographic and lacks the charm and appeal of the previous location. It is unfortunate that the change has led to a decline in the restaurant's overall appeal.
I hope they rebuild because the idea of marinated meats, stuffed squid, and simple BBQ fish, pork, and chicken was fantastic. My wife and others who ate there regularly will really miss the place. I hope they reopen somewhere in the city because the concept of ordering your food and having it cooked to your specifications is excellent.
So after they moved to the new place, we went there for a team dinner. We had their seafood boodle. It was good and affordable. The new place has a huge parking area. The only reason I'm giving this a 3 is because it took almost an hour for them prep the food.
Went for dinner here and got to sit in one of the aircon rooms they have. Food was alright though a bit too pricey for the serving and the wait was somewhat slow. Two of the glasses on our table smells weird so we had to put them aside, they seem to be short-staffed and the servers seem in a disarray. There is no person assigned for their more private rooms...
