The food was delicious, with my friend raving about the 'Pork Belly' dish as the best she had ever tasted. I enjoyed the Lasagne, which was also very good, paired with a couple of glasses of smooth Shiraz. We both cleared our plates and appreciated the thoughtful touch of water served in a chilled bottle. After our meal, we enjoyed a tour of the older parts of the pub with the landlord. It was a brilliant lunch experience that we didn't want to end. Thank you to all the staff at The Red Lion, we will definitely be returning.
Long association with this lovely country pub. Food was very good. A little disappointed with the greeting and table service a tad distant but did not spoil our lunch
We normally go to this pub for an amazing roast at lunchtime but unfortunately couldn't go at that time last Sunday so booked for 6pm. Couldn't believe what a different experience this was, we all ordered a different roast and to be fair the meat and most of the veg was lovely but the roast potatoes and parsnips were the worst I have ever had anywhere. Normally the potatoes are crispy and soft in the middle, these we struggled to get a knife through and I couldn't at all as so hard and thought they would give me indigestion. The cauliflower cheese usually comes in a separate bowl and I always look forward to that this time it was a mushy mess on the plate. No one came over to check we were happy with the meal till the end when it was too late. There was a lady at next table who had ordered pasta and it had much too much chilli to eat but again there was no one to tell. It just seemed that the staff weren't interested I could see them chatting away at the bar and some laying tables. Our dirty plates were left for ages on table. I don't understand why it should be so different we pay same money lunchtime as evening but its obviously not cooked fresh in evening just warmed up food. So so disappointing has put us off going back again. At the end we got offered free desserts but we would have preferred to have had a nice roast.
Met up with work colleagues for my retirement dinner just 6 of us, we had a round table in the alcove which was very suitable. My husband got a bit warm and the amazing landlady went off to get a fan which she found in the chefs flat, nothing to much trouble. Food excellent it may take a while but all freshly cooked, staff were very attentative checking we were all good. We have eaten several time here and have never been disappointed well done again!!
We ate here last night, spur of the moment decision. It was easy to book online and when we arrived we were given a friendly welcome.. I've has a beer in the garden before (stunning views) but the inside was just as nice, cosy with lots of individual touches so although it's a fullers pub it has a very local pub feel to it. We had a range of food from the standard and specials menu and it was all delicious but social mention for the baked garlic mushroom which a taste sensation, as you can see from the photo I was half way through eating before I thought to take a pic! Great service, with really friendly staff. Loved it.
