My friend wasn't impressed with her meal either and heard another couple complaining about there meal , sorry but won't be returning.
Today we decided to have lunch at The Bridge. When we arrived and tried to get a table, a young girl told us there were no tables inside and we could only sit outside. It was a chilly and cloudy day, so we suggested having a coffee and waiting for a table. However, she insisted that a table wouldn't become available. Disappointed, we left and found Tanya's Cafe nearby. Although all the tables were taken, the staff warmly welcomed us and allowed us to wait inside for a table to free up. We were grateful for their hospitality and glad we decided to stay.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We had to settle for this place as other cafes in town were full. The building is old and showing signs of damp, with peeling walls and mouldy windows. The two hot drinks we ordered were nice, but the snack items were disappointing. The £3 toasted tea cake was not enjoyable, even when toasted and buttered, as it was dry and stale. The homemade cheese scone, priced at £2.xx, had been microwaved for too long, resulting in a soggy texture. Additionally, it was served with a cherry tomato that had burst and leaked juice onto the scone – not appetizing. When we raised our concerns about the quality and freshness of the food, the response was dismissive. Overall, we will not be returning and will stick to dining at other establishments in town.
We fell over this great little find whilst mooching around Horncastle. The service was excellent (lovely lass with a dark pony tail couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly), the food was delicious (I had the Lincolnshire high tea and a salmon and cream cheese sandwich and my wife had the afternoon tea) both were extremely tasty and an absolute bargain.
Every time we visit Horncastle, we always end up at this restaurant. However, the quality of the food and service has become so inconsistent that it's time to try out other dining options. During our most recent visit, we arrived half an hour before closing time and ordered poached eggs on toast. It was not a good sign when the waitress audibly sighed upon taking our order. The eggs were served in a lackluster manner, floating in a pool of vinegar water with runny yolks, accompanied by soggy, cheap Sunblest white bread on the side. The rushed service continued as the waitress, noticing my wife browsing the gifts upstairs, inquired about her whereabouts before checking the time on her watch. While the chef has always been reserved, the food and service used to make up for it. Unfortunately, it now only qualifies as 'good in parts'.
