What a disappointment. Christmas week visit with family. We had pre-booked a table in the ‘restaurant’ but when we arrived they had no idea what we were talking about. The ‘restaurant’ was much less nice than the coffee shop and more basic than a low-budget cafe. The staff seemed to spend more time talking to each other than checking in customers. The website suggested carvery, fish and chips and specials. None of these appeared to be available and the standard menu was very basic and uninspiring. Our food arrived and was not pleasant. No one came to check so there was no one to tell. Chips were solid, coleslaw tasteless, Italian chicken was definitely not. Really disappointing and definitely below par.
My experience at this restaurant on an early Sunday afternoon at the end of November was pleasant. The serving area is small, mainly for cake and coffee, and Sunday lunches are served on the lower level of the restaurant, which has split levels. The scones we ordered were the best I've had in a long time - they were delicious and beautifully presented, but quite expensive at nearly £4 each. A small slice of cheesecake also cost around £4, which I found to be very pricey. The latte coffee was decent, and there were plenty of tables in the two sections of the restaurant, with a small conservatory area also available. The toilets were acceptable, and a disabled toilet was located near the conservatory tables.
I went to the restaurant for lunch today with my 10-year-old son. All the staff were wonderful, and the food was excellent. We both ordered the carvery, which was delicious and served by a smart and friendly chef who we hadn't seen before. We hope to see him again in the future as he did an excellent job.
So my elderly Mum calls at the Crowders Garden Centre with two friends looking for sit down meal and a good portion of fish and chips. After one hour wait, to which my Mum said 'have they been out to catch it? ' their fish and chips were served. However, eat it? Not a chance, the fish was as hard as rock. Couldn 't get a knife into it never mind eat it. Appalling and they wished they 'd gone to chippy in nearby Horncastle. They spoke to lady in charge who offered a 'cake ' in place of the rubbish. But not being able to eat sweet things, rejected. Eventually the lady took the price of one meal off of their three servings. They paid and left but will never return. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Go to the chippy!!!
