The haddock tasted as if it had just been caught from the nearby Firth of Forth and jumped straight into the frying pan. My wife tried the Steak and Ale Pie, which she found to be excellent, along with the tasty carrots, cabbage, and delicious sauce. For dessert, she had the Lemon Posset with Raspberry Coulis, which she described as perfect. Despite a previous experience with frozen chips at a well-known Glasgow restaurant, our meal at the Garvald Inn exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend giving it a try. Andrew N.
I was disappointed with the prices at this restaurant. Paying £16.90 for a steak pie seemed excessive, especially considering that the puff pastry was flat and the chips were thin, frozen ones that were fried. The lemon posset was delicious, but the raspberry sauce on top contained large pieces of ice. Overall, it was not good value for money. Additionally, being seated in the bar area with loud conversations going on was not ideal, especially when the lounge area was set up for a more formal dining experience. If I had been looking for a romantic or celebratory setting, I would have been disappointed. I do not plan on returning as it seems like the owners are new and struggling.
We had another amazing meal at the Garvald Inn. Peter is a fantastic chef and we have never been disappointed with our meals here. The venison burger was juicy and delicious, and the roast beef was cooked perfectly and very tender. Thank you once again!
Another good night down at the garvald inn. the food is always excellent i had 3 courses which is very unusual for me. they always have a guest beer which is well chosen. service was quick and friendly as usual. and finally someone interesting always pops in for a pint, this time it was bean the dog who went missing with his much relieved owner. walked back to carfrae farm through crunchy frost under starry skies. great night.
We stopped here after a cold cycle, just wanting a bowl of soup to warm ourselves up. After searching out the lady serving, she looked at her watch (it was 2.10pm so before the end of lunch according to the website and grunted an 'OK '. The soup arrived after a while and it was actually delicious, hot and very tasty. It was such a shame that the welcome was so cold (plus being growled at by one of their actually very sweet dogs! . We run our own business and know how important first impressions are, a smile can work absolute wonders and costs nothing. It was our first visit and, I suspect, our last. No smile, no tip either. Just saying.
