I had a hankering for a Purple Haze, unfortunately they no longer carry my cherished beverage. I settled for a Snake Bite and took a look at the menu. I ended up ordering a the Smokehouse Burger for lunch, which is a bacon cheeseburger with house BBQ Mayo. The burger was ok, it hit the spot, however it was a bit overcooked and dry. The BBQ mayo was there, but I couldn't taste the BBQ. The fries were just generic fries, nothing to write home about. They definitely weren't as warm as by burger. All in all, minor complaints, great beer selection and definitely worth checking out if you're in the neighborhood.
My friends and I are in Hampton for a wedding and wanted to have brunch before we departed ways to go back to our hometowns. I called ahead to ask how long was a wait for 7. The woman that answered the phone told us there was currently no wait. As soon as we walked in a CUSTOMER told us Girls you have to get here earlier if you want a table for 7 . Clearly trying to discourage us from eating there. The hostess then came up to us and told us There isn 't anywhere for you all to sit . Instead of asking us would we like to wait or giving us an estimated wait time she also dismissed us. It is definitely my concern that we, as young black women, were not welcome in this establishment. People were literally STARING at us as if were aliens. I definitely would recommend that this establishment works on their customer service and ability to welcome all patrons not just those that are of the majority.
Located within a few minutes walking distance of the Air Space Museum, the Taphouse is small local bar and eatery with a casual vibe and good food and drinks. Located on a small side street with a few other bar/restaurants, this bar has a college dive bar type feel, but the food and beer selection is anything but that. Happy hour every day ? 4-6, with local Virginia pours only being $3, including a lot of the higher alcohol beers. Wide variety of drafts and bottles. Food selection seems simple and pretty standard for a bar of this type, but the quality is much higher than your typical bar wings and burgers. We tried the crab dip, cheese burger, turkey ham club and fresh tuna gyro. Also have a daily list of specials. There is another seating area upstairs, complete with stage for live music. We brought our kids 11YO 4YO in here for dinner at 4pm after visiting the Air Space museum, but might not be the best place for kids later in the night or on weekends. Would definitely come back here again.Another great Yelp find.
Stopped by for lunch and glad we did. We had the crab dip for starters not too rich, and not too cheesy just right. I got the Taphouse Club sandwich very generous sized sandwich (triple tiered! and a big serving of fries, which were done to perfection. My other half got the tuna sandwich special... it's safe to say we both enjoyed the food so much as I didn't get a chance to snap any pics! It's a bit pricier than other spots in the area, but seems worth it. Our server today was lovely too, very sweet guy. We've had drinks here in the evening too, great vibe and the girls really look after you. Good choice of beer too!
The Taphouse, one of the oldest buildings in Hampton, exudes a charming old-world ambiance reminiscent of the days of sailors and schooners. It quickly became clear that we had stumbled upon a local hotspot, which is exactly what I was hoping for on a rainy afternoon. Our bartender Crystal, a laid-back woman with dreadlocks, was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. She recommended the perfect sandwich—a gigantic club—that satisfied all my culinary cravings. This mouthwatering sandwich was piled high with ham, turkey, bacon, and cheese, truly embodying the essence of a Dagwood Bumpstead sandwich (if you’re unfamiliar with Dagwood, let’s just say he loved his oversized sandwiches!). Crystal also helped me pick the ideal drink to accompany my meal: a snakebite made with Guinness and pineapple cider. And let me tell you, fellow foodies, pineapple cider is definitely a winner! With excellent food, drinks, and service like this, I can easily see myself returning to the Taphouse on my next visit to Hampton.
