The cakes and pies are something you won’t ever forget. They have four or so establishments around Providence.
For our holidays we always plan to pick up one item at Gregg’s. This year was the first time I was disappointed. I called ahead and asked that my carrot cake be ready for 5pm which would make it hopefully one of the last to be made. After tasting I am not sure at all that is the way they do it. When we looked forward to the delicious cake after a very nice dinner, it was stale We kept our cake cold so I am not sure what happened. With that said the running of the baking program outside was like a well oiled machine. You go right to cashier where they will take an order or to the left where they take your name for a phone order. Once you give your name you simply wait for them to come out and call your name except mine wasn’t called. A wonderful worker noticed and said I should have gotten mine awhile ago. Well I did. But it surly wasn’t freshly made. So what is the best way to ensure you will get a fresh dessert short of making it yourself? I would like to know because I have for years enjoyed they’re many flavored cakes Joyce
2 dinners, 1 spite and 1 beer and my husband ordered another beer before the end of his meal. 13 Minutes later he was still waiting for his beer when the waitress realized she never put in for the other Coors lite, she said she would do it right away, we said forget it but would like to order dessert. we told her we what we wanted and that I needed a take home box. 20 minutes later we were still waiting. We noticed that she was talking with the manager, and they were doing something with register. Another waitress who was taking care of the table next to ours asked whether we were done and removed our plates and if we wanted dessert, we explained that we had already ordered and gave her the name of our waitress. This other waitress went over to Nicole told her we were still waiting and that she would handle the desserts. she packaged our deserts to take home and got our waitress for us. NOT once did our waitress nor the manger come to our table to explain what was going on. Apparently, the waitress failed to put our order into the system and therefore was unable to printout a check for us. But nobody bothered to tell why there was such a delay. Instead, they kept their mouths shut and kept trying to generate a check to give us. that is called Poor Customer Service, either the waitress or the Manager should have come to us to tell us what was happening so that we at least were informed. Instead of having us just sit there waiting without knowing. At the end of it all the were able to generate a check and Nicole literally stood over my husband waiting for the money. He asked her to back off. she moved to the side but when he pulled out his wallet and started pulling out cash, she came to the table and asked if he was all done. He just looked at her and continued counting his money she just stayed at the table until he was done and immediately took it and disappeared with it. So bizarre. Also, not everyone is cutout to be in the service industry. Nicole, you are not. And Manager you need to be retrained. Food was good. Service Sucked.
Usually their desserts are some of the best but I ordered two for Thanksgiving that were absolutely awful. The grape nuts pudding might as well have been scrambled eggs because that's what it tasted like and was the texture. The chocolate chip pie was hard as a brick. Completely inedible. $66 wasted. I know they get a lot of orders for the holidays, but they need to do much better.
Food was absolutely delicious. Scallops were out of this world, baked potato cooked to perfection. The Caesar salad was fantastic, could definitely tell the salad dressing was in house freshly made, and the rolls, let's talk about how delicious the FRESH bread rolls are. I believe the bread is referred to as Ciabatta bread not %100. But I think so. Wait staff was fast, attentive, and courteous. Food came on time very quickly. Definitely worth checking out their menu. Guaranteed there's something for everyone on the menu.
