From the iconic paella with saffron-infused rice and a variety of seafood or meats, to the tasty patatas bravas covered in spicy tomato sauce, every bite is a trip through Spain's diverse culinary landscape. The boldness of chorizo and the simplicity of a well-made tortilla Española are just a few examples of the delicious dishes they offer.
I recently returned from a delightful weekend in the beautiful city of Edinburgh and was impressed by the variety of bars and restaurants available. On Saturday evening, I stumbled upon Cafe Andaluz and decided to give it a try, as I am a fan of Spanish cuisine. I ordered the Tapas Paella and Catalan bread, while my friend ordered Meatballs (Albondigas) and Tortilla Española. Unfortunately, the food was a letdown. The Paella was dry and overly spicy, not made with bomba rice as it should have been. The Catalan bread was a soggy mess of grated tomatoes. The Meatballs were dry, and the tomato salsa was unappetizing. The Tortilla was too salty. Despite my complaint about the Paella, the waiter kindly offered to replace it with another dish, but I ended up with more disappointment in the form of the Tortilla. My issue was not with the service staff, but with the restaurant owner. I have had better tapas in small Spanish bars and found the prices in this establishment to be quite high considering the lackluster quality of the food. It is unacceptable to pass off such subpar dishes as authentic Spanish cuisine. I left the restaurant feeling angry and let down. Avoid wasting your money on this imitation Spanish food.
The food at this restaurant was delicious and the atmosphere was charming. Even though it was busy, the service was outstanding. There was a great selection for those with dietary restrictions. The goat cheese and marmalade dish has become my new favorite.
Lovely food and friendly staff. Stopped for a bite on the way to the museum. Would definitely come back
Didn’t stay more than 5 minutes due to the rudeness of the manager on duty who ‘welcomed’ us and a really filthy table. Do yourself a favour and give it a miss.
