Tend to go here late either after a few beers or after a long shift. Chips are normally very good. If you arteries are up for it the deep fried steak pie is worth a shot just dont think about it. Why they cant just stick it in the pizza oven for ten minutes beats me. Oh and topped with a pickled egg....
I first visited this restaurant after I received a recommendation from the hotel staff at the Nira Caledonia. IT WAS AMAZING! Got curry gravy on my chips and vinegar and salt on my fish--simply fantastic. The restaurant is small, so it's not convenient for more than a couple, but I've yet to find any chippery in the world that's as good as Francos.
We regularly buy carry out meals from Franco's. The traditional fish and chip shop side of things is very good, although I'm not a massive fan of this type of food so it's usually my children who have this. They particularly like the deep fried pizza with chips, the chips being covered with the Edinburgh favourite of brown chip sauce. I normally opt for a thin based pizza, and I love them! The oven baked pizzas are fresh, tasty and very good value for money. We opt for delivery which can be quite slow on a Saturday night up to 1 hour is common) but we think it worth the wait.
On a visit to Edinburgh at night we were desperately looking for a fish and chip shop , by chance we hit upon Franco’s I did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised by the good quality fresh fish and crispy tasty chips from this place , i marked it down as a good place to eat next time we visit Edinburgh.
