The drink I asked for was filled to overflowing with ice, didn't bother me as they always chill the glass but this time the ice stayed there and the (cocktail) mix was poured in but barman left most of it in the shaker, absolutely terrible service from a cocky barman. Won't be back.
While in Edinburgh, my partner and I had a negative experience at another restaurant, so we decided to try our luck elsewhere for cocktails. We stumbled upon a hidden gem called Elio's, where we were met with fantastic drinks. The "Breakfast at Tiffany's" cocktail was a standout - juicy, fresh, and delicious. The staff was attentive, and though it was early in the week and the restaurant was quiet, the ambiance was lovely.
We decided to visit this restaurant for drinks because it was conveniently located near where we were staying, and the website indicated that the cocktails were reasonably priced. We arrived around 8 pm on a Saturday night and stayed until about 9:45 pm. The restaurant wasn't very crowded when we arrived, and we were able to easily find a seat. Even as it got busier towards the end of our visit, there were still seats available. The cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced, ranging from £6.50 to around £8. The bartenders were all very friendly and served us promptly. The music played was a good mix of old and new.
I applaud the staff for their hard work, but unfortunately, the restaurant is poorly managed. I won't be returning to Maddies for late drinks in the future.
Take care not to miss this place. It worth taking the time to seek out this 'downstairs ' bar and trying out one or two of their exciting cocktails. We dropped in after dinner on a Friday evening, it wasn 't too busy when we got there and the super friendly staff really helped with our cocktail choices, suggesting vanilla vodka in the black Russian was inspired. The place filled up later so it 's obviously popular, but with expertly made cocktails you should not be surprised.
