We sat in the beer garden for lunch. Service was below par. It was quite evident the person serving us couldn't be bothered. He took a drinks order at the table and told us to order food at the bar...couldn't really understand the logic in this and other tables around us got full table service with order and payment taken tableside. Starter was ok, both had Cullen skink, have had better. Both opted for the beef Sunday roast, the beef was lovely but everything else on the plate was a bit sad. Dry roast potatoes, under cooked turnip, no attempt at adding any seasoning or flavour to the veg. Yorkshire pudding was OK but again I've had better. Not a cheap afternoon at £75 for 2 courses and 2 drinks for 2 and have left feeling rather underwhelmed by the whole experience.
Staff were not welcoming. Ignored by the bar man when we walked in even though there was no one at the bar, then after I said hi he was rude in asking what we were here for, as if he didn't want us there. Then the waiter arrived and was the same. Terrible first impression, happy to try again once staff have had some basic training on etiquette. Walked out after the waiter made jibe about my accent. Not inclusive, sort it out 22/03/24
This is a lovely spot with a lovely ambience. The food we had was amazing, couldn't fault it. Drinks were a little pricey but always expected. The only slight niggle was the waitress could have smiled and been slightly more attentive but it is a busy place.
Terrible. We arrived at opening time with a booked table, that it was cancelled by the establishment the night before and after phoning it was sorted. Arriving with two little ones, we had to asked for a high chair, after specifying in the booking that we needed one. No menus on the table. When asked for them they told us they would bring them soon. When we ask for the kids menu, the waiter had to go find out. The manager came and said the kids menu hadn’t been printed out yet and we could ask for pancakes with one out of three option: bacon, banana or blueberries. We asked one with bacon and one with bananas, no syrups. The manager then asks for our food order without asking first for drinks. Coffees arrived and they weren’t particularly hot. When the food starts to arrive. The pancakes with bananas, arrived with a little bowl of jam and random fruit in a skewer all covered in chocolate sirup, as I was shocked the manager said the one with bacon doesn’t have syrup but we can change this one. As I had a young child screaming for food we decided not to ask for it to be changed. I ordered the eggs Benedict and they were literally just flung into the plate. Tiny toast, bit of Parma ham, eggs more cooked than poached, and a sauce… out of a jar. My partner had the fry up and even that wasn’t very good. One flimsy toast, at least it was real bread. When finished asked for bill and mentioned we had the locals card. But told it didn’t apply as it was Mother’s Day. Not coming back!
