I had heard about The Ox on TripAdvisor and the reviews of their Famous Sunday Roast sounded promising. After emailing the owner to confirm if certain items from the regular menu were available on Sundays, I was pleased to receive a quick response confirming they were. I made a reservation and upon arrival, I found the restaurant to have a cozy and inviting atmosphere. We were seated upstairs near a window, which allowed us to people-watch while we dined. We ordered the roast Scottish beef and beer battered haddock. I was slightly disappointed with the roast beef as I was expecting a larger portion, but the two thin slices were well cooked despite being fatty. The haddock, however, was cooked perfectly. I would like to give special recognition to Ella, who stepped in as our server at times and made us feel welcome, unlike our original server. Would I return to The Ox? Perhaps for drinks, a burger, and the overall atmosphere.
2 of us are immersed in Sunday dinner eating is very nice and the service was very good the only reason why I don't give 5* is that we didn't say that dogs were allowed in the opposite where we were sitting. Today was a wet day, I had 4 big smelling dogs around me while we finished our food and they stank the place out also the website says not dog friendly.
Big gastopub in new town, which was beautiful for a Sunday dinner! delicious Haggis-Pops to start and a swarm bauchbraten. good selection of gin wines. also dog friendly. a pub that feels like it could be local easy!
I remember visiting the bellevue many years ago before the ox re-brand and it wasn't really unforgettable, maybe it was my date or maybe I was a design snob had something to do with it. the interieur was outdated and in desperate need of a makeover walking in the ox, they are greeted with an industrial interieur, which seems to be the view in the time. they took the hipster approach when it comes to branding, something that works and I love! I like that the owners are making the brand and marketing conscious because it has really made so well paid youngs and the place fits wonderfully with the broughton street charme. enough about design, let's go to eat!
