Authentic old bar. Unfortunately overwhelming smell of urine in the back section of the restaurant where we were seated. Convinced ourselves it was due to an old mop or dishcloth being used to clean the area. Food good once you got past the smell. Would recommend the steak and ale pie and had the best cocktail here called Whiski Jack but sadly not enough for us to visit again.
A beautiful cosy and very hospitable pub. We went in for a spot of lunch and were tempted by the sandwiches which were very good. Plenty of filling in a lovely Fa cassia roll. Very attentive staff and in whole a very relaxing experience and one that we would recommend
We wanted a comfy place, right on the High Street central town, to sample both traditional haggis supper AND a great whisky experience. I couldn 't think of a better place to try. The atmosphere was 'Old Edinburgh Pub ' and the choice of food and whisky (as well as other drinks) was exceptional. Prices were a little on the high side for the whisky but, as a visitor to Edinburgh, that didn 't stand in the way of having a great evening. Live music every night was promised but we came and left early so no live music. However there was good music nonetheless on the speakers. Just a word of advice: you need to book this venue ahead, as it will be completely rammed presumably because it is very popular.
Lovely old pub with Overpriced Food Chicken with mushroom sauce was very dry and tough. It was sent back. Sticky toffee pudding also so tough it slipped out of the plate when I attempted to cut into it. Also sent back! I now wish that I had removed the discretionary tip from the bill. Also, we chose this pub to listen to some live music at 10pm. We left at 1020 pm as we grew tired of waiting.
