We dropped in last minute with 7 work colleagues and were warmly welcomed. The presentation of everyone's food was impressive and I heard it tasted amazing. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. Overall, it was good value for money with exceptional service.
We found ourselves caught in a sudden rainstorm early in the evening while walking up Lothian Road on our way back to our hotel, so we decided to seek shelter and have dinner at Bar Italia. We were initially expecting a mediocre meal, but we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was busy when we arrived at 7:00 PM, but fortunately, they had a table available for two. The atmosphere was charming and very Italian, with a cozy and lively vibe. We ordered the Burrata Caprese, a couple of mains (the Crab Ravioli was amazing!), dessert, and two drinks each. Our bill came to around £84, which we felt was very reasonable given the quality of the food and how delicious everything tasted. It was a fantastic discovery and we will definitely be returning on our next trip to the city from Aberdeen.
I must relate our disappointing experience at Bar Italia. Last week, my English friends and I visited the restaurant in Edinburgh for dinner after a Festival theatre show. Unfortunately, we were left extremely disappointed with various aspects. The service was lacking, the food quality didn't meet our expectations, and the portion sizes were unsatisfactory. Our interaction with the person in charge of the dining room was also disappointing, as their attitude didn't match what one would expect from a person in charge of the dining experience Overall, it was a disappointing and embarrassing experience that didn't live up to our expectations . I have visited Italy with my Italian husband for 46 years and never experienced such a poor meal in all these years.
Visited this lovely family restaurant during our stay in the festival. Just walked in and we’re surprised by great friendly worm welcome followed with great Italian home fresh cocked dishes. Had minestrone soup freshly made with lots of vegetables. Mozzarella salad, great portion fresh and tasty. Followed by pasta bolognaise, wow like my mother’s!! We’re very impressed with the cleanliness of the restaurant and the toilets even now when the festival is on . Warmly recommend and definitely will come again next year.
