Chizuru Tei Haymarket - Edinburgh

I visited this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and had a wonderful experience. The sushi was delicious and reasonably priced, and the service was very attentive. The owner was especially proud of their in-house prepared Scottish salmon, and rightfully so.

I have been visiting Chizuru Tei for date nights with my partner for the past 3 years, and each experience has surpassed the last. This family-run restaurant uses fresh ingredients and provides impeccable service at a surprisingly low price compared to other restaurants in Edinburgh. If you ever find yourself in the UK, dining at Chizuru Tei is a must! It is the top spot for Japanese cuisine in Edinburgh.

The food at this restaurant is of incredibly high quality! They serve authentic sushi and sashimi that is delicious. Although it may not stand out at first glance, it is definitely a hidden gem. The service is excellent and they only accept cash, which is not a problem. While they do not serve alcohol, you are allowed to bring your own drink or bottle for a small fee per person (around £2). The prices are very reasonable and overall, this place probably offers some of the best and most honest sushi in the UK.

I love Japanese food so much that it is hard to give less than 4 stars. I saw on the menu some twists to the classic starters and rolls. The food was good but nothing outstanding. Service very attentive, careful and friendly. The overall experience was very nice but there are other places competing out there that I would recommend first.

Chizuru Tei definitely ranks above average among Japanese restaurants in Edinburgh, yet not the top quality of Japanese food I have had here. Their best come with the rolls I love the dragon roll with avocado which is always a great compliment to such dishes. We had their tempura twice, first time the batter was really well done and the prawn was quite tender, yet in our second visit the batter was slightly soaked and the prawn came a bit rubbery. Sashimi from the set (3 kinds of sashimi) was fine, both salmon and sea bass were good, they just didn’t offer the best sort of tuna here.
