Downtown Cafe Grill - El Cajon

I took my friend to Downtown Cafe for the first time in five months since we had been traveling. We visited during Happy Hour on Sunday. Our server, Maritza, was friendly and cheerful as she took our orders and attended to our needs. Scott, the bartender, also did an excellent job crafting delicious cocktails. We ordered the Louisiana Chicken Tenders, which came with some very flavorful coleslaw, and the BBQ Chicken Flatbread, which was fantastic. After finishing our meals, we headed outside to enjoy two different live music acts performing on the patio. It was a tasty, relaxing, and enjoyable evening, all at a very reasonable price. I had a great experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere was cheerful, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. I ordered the Bacardi lemon chicken and absolutely loved it. Some of my friends tried the fish and chips and cheeseburgers, and they were pleased with their meals as well. Just a heads-up: they don’t serve blended drinks, so if you request a margarita, it will be served on the rocks.

We arrived just before the lunch rush, and the atmosphere felt quite calm. However, the staff was highly efficient. Service started to slow down as more customers came in. The food was excellent, the prices were reasonable for lunchtime, and there were many drink specials available as well.

The food is very good here. Many options; friendly staff. The ambience is authentic Mexican style. Prices are very competitive. Sunday afternoons they sing on the terrace from 12 a.m.

20 mins before getting an order of a drink 20 mins at lest before it arrived ordered a meal fish and chips took about an hour to arrive if i wasnt in a birthday party I would have left and then it came up fish tacos returned another 30 mins later for it to arrived of which the batter had small pieces of leafs in it asked what they were waitress had to go back to the kitchen to ask she came back it was cilantro mixed in it that is one thing I dislike so it was returned asked if I'd like to reorder I said no thank didn't want to wait another hour for it checked on the menu under fish and chips and cilantro wasn't mentioned and it should have been as some don't like it or are allergic to I never heard of it in fish batter before. Will say the band was good. Waitress had to many customers to take care of. There was no charge for the meal my drink of 15 should have been free to for the waiting time and wrong order.
