Usually never greeted when arriving, almost have to sit yourself. If your on a 1 hour lunch let them know because 2/3rds of the time the food takes 35-40 min to arrive even if theres not a-lot of people. Don't like the fact that the restaurant has shared restrooms with convenience store and truck drivers.
Clean inside, don't ask for tap water, but the ramen, special soup and Mexican style pho were delicious.
I came here since the other restaurants were closed so I decided to give this a try, my first time here, disappointing, chow mein was ramen (terrible), orange chicken was terrible (I think it was either over cooked or reheated? Idk but wasn't good), the Mongolian beef was very different and drowning in sauce, wasn't great, the salt pepper fish was ok, the pork was ok, dumplings was ok and the egg rolls were ok. Well over priced for that meal. Will not be going there again. The service was good.Ambiance felt nice and welcoming.
Chinese state of mind on a Saturday afternoon. Consulted with DH and our personal restaurant consultant (YELP . Many to choose from in the Imperial Valley. Headed south into El Centro. Passed a few offerings but nothing really caught our appetite and attention. Remembered mention of Hong Kong Restaurant south of the 8 FWY. Headed into what we thought maybe was the right direction? HUH? Truck stops. Big rig repair places. What the heck. And then, right there in front of us , at the large truck stop was Hong Kong Restaurant. Really. Kinda felt like a cloud parting moment. You enter the truck stop facility and there it is on the right. And ya know what? It is beautiful! Done up lavishly in black and red, with beautiful lacquered panels, richly upholstered booths and modern lighting. We were immediately shown to our table and given menus. Not only a generous variety of offerings , but the menu itself was soo fancy. Jeez, you'd think I never go out!. Anyhow we had egg rolls and yellow chilis as appetizers. Tasted good. The chilis were done up ala shishitos and were nice if not a bit spicey. Entrees were Asparagus beef , Mongolian beef and chicken chop suey. We liked that half orders were available on the menu, and even with that we were given huge portions with nice large sides of steamed rice. The asparagus beef was very generous with the beef AND asparagus. It was delicious. The asparagus done perfectly. Mongolian beef was delicious (sensing a pattern here? and along with the chop suey had lots of perfectly done veggies and generous with the tender meats. The service was impeccable. Courteous, quick and not hovering! We will definitely be back. We thought pricing was fare (maybe a tad pricey . But you could always order from the lunch menu and save a few bucks.I would encourage everyone to give them a try. Please don't judge this place by the cover. And fyi, i imagine in the milder fall and winter months there looks to be an outside patio with plenty of room for outside parties.
Cold food. The Gen and black pepper chicken was under cooked when cut into it. The rice looked like Minite rice and tasted like it too.
