Our annual ski holiday at Canaan Valley and summer visits to the heart of West Virginia in Elkins nearly always includes a visit to local restaurants. The 1863 Bistro is west of downtown, and the location is very clear with a good parking lot. No one expects 2023 prices to be at the 2014 levels, and in our view all menu items are in-line. We recommend the this property. The 1863 Appalachian dining has an attractive ambience, good management, service, and a variety of menu options.
Last Saturday evening, the EHS Class of 1971 celebrated our 51st HS reunion at the 1863 catered by Velora. Around 60 people attended and had an excellent time! Even with a major electric outage that evening, everyting ran smoothly and was delicious. We had a buffet style meal and cash bar. The food was delcious and complemented the warm environment. Many classmates offered positive comments on the food and how well the evening was managed. THANK YOU so much for making our class reunion such a memorable celebration. Pat (Hiser) Shinn Service: Delivery Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30
Very disappointed took 45 min to get a salad, soup quesadilla. My salad was wilted after being in the bag with a hot quesadilla, soup was not good and quesadilla was all veggies and did not taste good at all. The service was horrible I would not recommend this to anyone. The waitress offered to fix me a drink and never came back to see what I wanted. I will not be back to give this upscale bistro a second chance.
We went there for dinner Saturday night bc it was close to our hotel. We arrived at 7 pm. At 7:30 we received our ice water. At 8:10 pm (only one person serving, bar tending, and she was ringing up! We ordered French Onion soup. IT WAS WATERY I saw one sliver of an onion, it was cold and I don't know what the sickening sweet red seasoning it was but it didn't belong! And the crotons was soggy! My husband has never spit out food. He did that. I told him No we're sending it back! There was no offer of remaking! She took them and said she would remove them from our bill. My husband ordered fried green tomatoes. He said they were good until he used some kind of dressing. He said it tasted real OLD! So we sat another 45 minna waiting for our crab cakes. The other table of 4 kept telling us to get the bottle bc it was going to be a long time and we don't care how bad it taste. I waited another 20 mins. My husband outside smoking. I got up went to the register and said WERE LEAVING!!! I'm only paying for the fried green tomatoes! She asked me if I wanted to wait and take our dinner to go! Lol!!! We left went to Kings!!! I had a ham hoagie! I could only image how bad they'd screw up a crab cake!!!
Planned a trip here with a group of people. Got there at 6:00 pm got appetizers at 7:30 pm and entree at 8:20pm. Food was cold and looked microwaved, staff was limited and unprofessional. Rolls were stale, cinnamon rolls were very hard and cold, the guests had to fill their own glasses of water. Definitely not worth it. Don 't recommend ever. Took my food home and threw it in the trash. As we exited the establishment the cooks were out front smoking cigarettes and asked us how the food was and we said umm cold and the response was oops sorry . Never will we go back or recommend
