The gondola up to the Stockhorn is breathtaking. Pleasant middle station has a beautiful lake. Once you transfer to the top you have vistas all around (thanks to the viewing center carved right out of the mountain! The restaurant has tables inside and outside depending...on weather. We sat outside and had one of the two specials offered. We chose the salad (but the soup was good too and Raclette. The Raclette was garnished with colorful, delicate alpine flowers. It was very Swiss and Very good! For dessert we had chocolate ice cream with whipped cream on top. Dessert was garnished with strawberry and mint. Perfect!
We went there for the 'Sunday Brunch ' breakfast buffet, which is pretty great. All sorts of fresh bread, cheese, cereals, meat (including salmon), roesti, bacon and sausages, beverages and so on. Very delicious just make sure you have enough time and maybe don 't eat...for a few days before you go. One thing they could improve on would be fresh juices and a wider variety of eggs. And while it 's totally worth it, the breakfast is pretty expensive because you also have to get a ticket to the top of the mountain to get there (well you could walk, but that would take you at least three hours of walking up a mountain; on the bright side you 'd be very hungry by then), but if you stay around for a bit and enjoy the scenery at the top of the mountain or at the middle station, you can make a day 's worth of sightseeing out of it. Since it 's often sold out, breakfast has to be booked in advance.
We have bin on the Stockhorn today, and in Simmental in the valley we parked our car for free and bought a combination ticket for the cablecar ride and lunch. After the stop at 1650 mtr we took the next cablecar up to...2200 mtrs. Cool ride we did see some mountain goats, and a lot of snow. The panorama restaurant had a good daily special and the rosti with bacon and eggs powers you up again. It was a pitty that the clouds came up and we only had a great view for a couple of minutes, but it was worth going up.... Nice food, nice people, nice prices. All the best... C Y again in the summer for a hiking experiance, cecile rene
Valentine's Day dinner at the top of the mountain Why not? we have booked the Valentine's Day to make this event unforgettable, but it ended in a full disappointment. what a Valentine's Day dinner could be expected to be something special bud these young, with. all respect, no creativity shown in their facility. no ambiente, bad food quality and the worst was the weeping she had cork, and sadly there was no substitute to look at it that made it better than for the wee. what could you expect? drinks were loaded (water, wine and coffee etc. additionally . that was a whole night-mare, and we were unhappy about everything in the night. we have reported this issue on the day after the date and have little understanding of the management (operator of stockhornbergbahnen ag). we asked for a refund, but we did not get a positive reaction which is completely unacceptable after all this bad experience we had with them. that made our Valentine's Day dinner unforgettable. for anyone who thinks about spending their time and money up there, we strongly recommend not to expect too much of their services. whatever, much luck. the caring shares volks.
