El Mexicano - Essexville

I haven't dined at this restaurant since I was a child when they were located on Broadway in Bay City. The food still feels very fresh, and the portions are large, just like I remember.

I normally love the food here. However today was one of the worst experiences I’ve had ever. We come in and get told to sit anywhere, then don’t get acknowledged again until 20 minutes later. She took our drink order and disappeared for another 10 minutes, brought our drinks and then left without straws. When we finally got our food, it wasn’t cooked right, running with oil, and for some reason my steak tacos tasted like garlic powder.

Not long ago I would have given a higher rating. The food quality has diminished. This restaurant use to have the best lunch buffet with attentive staff. Even the building is neglected as my daughter had water drip on her food from a leaky roof on her last visit. She had to demand to be moved even when staff knew the roof was leaking. Such a shame to see the decline.

The chicken/ steak fajitas were extremely overcooked, dry with no flavor. I also I had to ask 3 times for a coffee refill. Service was very poor considering our group of 8 and 2 other customers were the only ones there. None of us were pleased with the food nor service.

This is a wonderful place to dine. The staff is very friendly, and the margaritas are fantastic!
