Aux Armes D'estaing

We discovered this restaurant at random whilst looking for lunch near the river in Estaing. Glad we did. The meal we had was one of our favourite of this year’s holiday. So good we came back a couple of days later to try the dishes we missed the first time. Service is extremely friendly. You have to have your wits about you as the proprietor comes out wielding a large board with all the days options on so you need the think quickly : What stood out? A fabulous salmon panna cotta with cucumber sorbet perfect in the 35C heat. A stuffed pork dish that held together only just long enough to get to your table and then dissolved in the mouth. Even the side salads were a work of art and full of tasty morsels of nuts and dried fruit. Finally if you like raspberries and they’re doing it, have the raspberry soup. Basically just raspberries and cream, but it seems everyone else is doing it wrong as I’ve never had raspberries that taste that good. Amazing. I had that twice

On arrival we were made to feel welcome. The service was good. Plenty to choose from on the menu. The food was great, very tasty and good value.

We ate here on a Saturday night. There were a mixture of guests from various other European countries as well as native French speakers. The hostess was very genial and showed us straight to our table which we had reserved on line. We picked the mid price menu 28 euros which was 4 courses, more than we really needed to eat, but there didn't seem to be an à la carte menu. The starter o e would have been sufficient: a generous plate of Aveyron cold meats. Thankfully our main: hampe de boeuf wasn't so big, but it was nice to have vegetables with it. Then on to the cheese course followed by an extensive list of home made and delicious desserts. We left feeling replete, the only downside of the whole visit was having to leave at the same time as a thunderstorm

A lunch with friends, a warm welcome from the owners, good local products, listening to the guests. correct quality price. (thank you for the fries barquette) lol.
