Tasca O Carlos - Estremoz

We had a lovely meal of Portuguese food here. Two couples and we were searching out a place to eat when we came upon this restaurant. A great find. Food was great, prices were reasonable and service was very good. It was very busy with mostly locals, always a good sign.

This is a small simple restaurant serving fantastic local food. Lots of locals which tells you everyting. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and attentive, my only comment is the size of the portions which was huge! The dessert, chocolate mousse, was incredible! done with a care and attenion to detail that you would rarely get in a much more expensive place.

We ordered two lamb stews for lunch thinking it might be too much food. What came was a large bowl of liquid full of potatoes and bread with perhaps 10 small pieces of bone with a little meat attached to them. The taste was fine but the quantity of lamb was miniscule, in spite of the fact that these bones were practically leftovers. There was no proper lamb meat to talk of. What really annoys us is that everyone else around us was served with ample quantities of whatever meats they had ordered. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that everyone else was Portuguese. They are pretty sneaky as well. Being a very liquid stew, it’s impossibel to detect the lack of lamb in the stew until you have eaten your way through it.
