The owner took the time to share fascinating stories about his grandfather, Mike Stepovich, and his father, Mike Stepovich II, who served as the governor of the territory from 1958 to 1959 before Alaska became the 49th state. It was like a little history lesson during lunch!
Good food and great atmosphere. Our server (I think the owner) was great. Interacted with everyone in the place. Great beer selection too.
If you're in search of a cozy diner in a small town, this spot has everything you need! Our waiter, Bill, was fantastic. When I was torn between the pastrami and the Reuben, he suggested putting pastrami on the Reuben, and it was incredible! The owner was also present and shared stories about his family's heritage, which truly adds character to the place. It's a wonderful spot for lunch or some comforting food!
The food is quite expensive and the portions are small, set in a cozy atmosphere. At first glance, the place looks like a hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon, but the prices suggest otherwise! The halibut was decent, but for $22, you only get two fish sticks alongside a small portion of potato salad served in a spice ramekin. The potato salad was strange, heavily loaded with relish and mayo, with only a few potatoes mixed in. I would recommend looking elsewhere to eat. On the plus side, the frosty beer served in a chilled glass was very good!
I liked the meal. The restaurant is closed at 17.30, not at 3.30. Go and have something unique.
