We did phone a couple of days before to make sure we would get a table, which was in the bar because we were taking our dog. On arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming and showed us to our table. We ordered drinks non alcoholic for me and a coke for the wife, and ordered and paid for our Carvery at the same time. Our dog had a Carvery too he could choose between Beef or Turkey, he had the Turkey with roast spuds, veg and Yorkshire pudding obviously no gravy. I went to the restaurant to get our meals, today's meat choice were Beef, Gammon, Turkey and Pork with Crackling very nice too. I decided that we would have a bit of every meat and it was cooked to perfection. Then you moved along the counter there were roast spuds, roast Parsnips, stuffing balls, big Yorkshire puddings, Cauliflower Cheese. Moving further along were the veg, Peas, Broccoli, Carrots, Red Cabbage, Sweet Corn and French Beans. Obviously there was Gravy and all the Condiments that accompany the Meats. To be honest our plates were big but they couldn't cope with the amount of food piled on them. The food was very nice and hot everything was cooked very well and really tasty and the prices were very reasonable Adult Carvery £12.95 and the Dog Carvery was £3.95 which came in a big dog bowl full to the top. If we are still in the area next week we will be booking again, highly recommend The Crown's Sunday Carvery.
To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I don't know where they got the photos for their website but they are fake! The hotel, rooms food are NOTHING LIKE the pictures. Everything seems to be done as cheap as possible, Sunday carvery was tasteless, and to describe the Yorkshire puddings, made me feel sick! The buffet breakfast was a little better, but no fresh fruit on offer and only 3 what I'd describe as unhealthy sugary Cereals and only cheap plastic dishes. The coffee offered was sachets and hot water! The wine rack looks like it's about 40 years old. The room, where to begin! On arrival we were given a twin although my husband had booked a double. When asked if we could be moved I was told there were no other rooms available, however when I checked the website it showed 3 of each room on offer! The beds were old, didn't even match, the duvets barely covered the beds and the bedding I think was as old as me! The pillows Mattress was just as bad. The sliding wardrobe door had to be moved with 2 hands, old rickety. The shower was the oldest, cheapest model and the jets shot it every direction but down, I got wetter out in the rain, and we couldn't maintain the temperature. Mt husband had to clean it to get it to even be worth a shower. I would never go back here and I'm angry that it was shown to be something it's clearly not, this shouldn't be allowed. Having said all this, every member of staff was friendly and courteous.
