That is, it always has French pastis on the shelf in stock; Pastis is similar to Italian Sambuca or Greek Ouzo, but not quite the same, lol. Sambuca is made from elderberry, Ouzo from distilled grapes, Pastis is made from anise, star Anis Fenchel. The store has only Pernod what we do, but you can special order Ricard which is my French hub preference; they are of the same company are both anise-flavored spirits that have their roots in absinthe, but they taste different from each other. Pernod is the cabinet to Absinthe of the company, Pernod-Ricard actually makes absinthe also. Look at the story, it's actually an interesting story about how Pastis came. But I digress, lol. Pastis is an anise-flavored aperitif, or aperitif, as the French call it, it is a digestive organ (Aides in the digestive). It is usually drunk before a meal is diluted with water over a few ice cubes, so it becomes beautifully cloudy almost a golden iridescent yellow. Pernod is made from distillates from star anise (on my Fave spices), fennel, 14 other botanicals such as coriander, mint, chamomile, veronica to name some. Pernod has a low licorice content that distinguishes it from Ricard that has a more pronounced licorice taste I must say the staff here is super friendly the female manager is the best; she always has a big smile on her face. If you want alcohol in VA, you need to buy it from the ABC shop aka alcohol beverage control authority.
I have been hunting for years after the most exalted Soju, which does not exist in any ABC business and in the other supermarkets, not even H Marts. I had this taste when I was in NY, which of course cost like $18. Overrated, but it was incredibly delicious. While most of the most important KBBQ spots I was in Northern Virginia do not even have. I decided to stop this ABC business again as my last visit was months ago. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Jinro Green Grape soju bottles! This must be one of the latest liqueurs here at ABC, which I hope will continue to sell them for many years. Apart from that, I like this place for other reasons. The store is larger than other ABCs in the area, impeccable cleanliness, friendly staff and the parking lots are usually empty. If you love spiced soy, then visit this place, so you can start from 2020 on the right foot.
Wonderful ABC location! Kind manager that allowed me to exchange when I purchased the wrong kind of scotch for a gift and always carries the economical size bottle of the higher-end tequila we like for Palomas. So grateful this is the one here in our 'hood!
Getting in and out of this ABC store is a nightmare. Route 7 sucks, there's just no way of being kind towards this road, or the high number of complete a holes that drive on it. With that being said, if you're stuck in this area, at least there's this ABC store. Admission time, as part of my rating is due to this being a government enterprise where private industry should be allowed. It's 2019 Virginia, and your government controlled alcohol stores are a relic from the past. This causes higher prices. I don't like it as the free market is the way to be.With that out of the way, they have a good selection. I am impressed with the legalized apple pie moonshine. They have a great amount of choices in vodkas, tequilas, and whiskey but step up on the rum! As for the employees they know their hooch. If you need a recommendation, they'll be glad to help. As for the store itself, it looks like the government. Yet as far as it goes we are forced by our government to go to these, and while it could be worse, this store and all ABC's are outdated. You're going to pay more here, than you will in nearby DC and Maryland.
Yelp has listed the wrong phone number. Phone is mistyped as 571; should read 521. Call 703 521 1210. Manager said they cannot fix this error. It is up to Yelp. Store is clean, well organized. The staff was friendly- though he didn't know they carried Tennessee Honey whiskey- and manager was polite and helpful.
