They will prepare authentic food. Just ask. Order the tacos, real tacos...barbacoa, carbon, suadero.<br/ <br/ Ana, Reina, et al. Great service. This is a nice traditional place. If you want the usual wet burrito rice and beans you can get it, but why????!
Great Mexican Food in the 'Burbs. Normally I go to SW Detroit for my Mexican food fix. I had some family and friend visiting and we didn 't feel like making the drive at the end of a long day. I decided it was time to try Camelia 's and went to the web site. We browsed the on line menu and opted for the weekend family special, a botana, and queso flameado while rockin ' out to the catchy banda music that plays on the site. The gentleman who answered the phone accomidated my request for the mole sauce on the enchiladas and a split of the tacos between beef and chicken. The special is you choice of standard fare mexican american tacos, burritos, or enchiladas, w beans, rice, chips and salsa. When we arrived to pick up our order it was ready as promised. The younger folk enjoyed the tacos. The mole on the cheese enchiladas was flavorful with a hint of spice and chocolate (as it should be). The appetizers were both very good though the soup type container for the queso flameado was a bit odd to deal with. Everyone enjoyed the food. We fed six people and had leftovers for less than $50.00.
Food is excellent but the service could have been better.
I stumbled upon Camelia's for lunch while working in the area. I've been back 3-4 times even though I live an hour away. It's hard to find authentic home cooked Mexican food at the quality and depth of flavor as prepared by Camelia's. I wish I didn't crave the chile rellenos and menudo as much as I do... You can't beat it.
Learned of this place while going to school across the street, and have been hooked ever since. If you can get away with a long lunch, do it. Start with great home made chips and salsa, and maybe a bucket of coronitas. The lunch specials are very good and very affordable. I have never had a bad experience here
