1 hr for a lame pork sandwich? AVOID! Pleasant square but eat somewhere else...I had to give my order three times. Should have walked out..blemish on an otherwose phenomenal trip to Portugal.
I loved this place. It is genuine Portuguese. Unlike most of the eaterias in the Praca Ferreira Almeida it is not primarily directed at the tourist market. Many tourists glance at this place and walk past with their noses in the air. It is not splendid or flash and this is enough to put them off. The majority of its patrons early in the day are locals. Working men call in there on their way to work for a quick espresso. It is a simple café. It’s a great place for Portuguese breakfast, which for me is freshly squeezed orange juice €2.50, café com leite (coffee with milk) €2.50, a pastel de bacalao (cod pasty) €2 and a pastel de carne (meat pasty). The orange juice is marvellous, the coffee magnificent and the pasteles are wonderful. Tasty and succulent. It is also good for lunch. The staff are friendly and helpful and they pretended to perfectly understand my atrocious Portuguese. It is marvellous not to be surrounded by lobster coloured tourists.
We came here almost everyday for lunch so we tried a lot on the menu. All of the baguettes, toasts and bifana (highly recommended! we had were delicious and worthy of your money. The staff was very friendly and hardworking. Service was amazing. Not to mention the location is great too. Definitely worth visiting!
Good burger with good fries and at cheap prices! Our waitress' English could use some practice though
