Shocking experience, quiet evening drink with my sons, they were challenged for id which they didnt have, I offered mine and it was declined and photos were not admissable so he took their drinks and then took mine when I said I wouldnt come back.... Sounds like that is their policy to get rid of customers and they have succeeded and a small man has made himself very happy by causing a scene. Not been abused like that ever and at 62 it could have been handled better but he had already decided he was kicking us out. Good luck Mr Martin, shadow if the leader, shocking company.
We stayed overnight in the Hippodrome Hotel and ate in the pub section in both the evening and for the next morning’s breakfast. The accommodation was superb, really excellent value for money, however the dining was a little less impressive. We’re very familiar with the...Wetherspoons menu and always rate it highly for the type of food they provide for the money. It was no exception this time and we enjoyed everything we had. However the service was dreadful. We waited ages on all occasions for drinks and food to arrive, and when it did come the waitress more or less dumped it on the table without any pleasantries at all. In addition when we requested that our table was wiped down after the previous occupant (Covid safety measures???? the waitress made a face, tutted, and in a bored manner said she’d go and get a cloth. We could tell from her attitude that clearly she didn’t want to do the job and she never reappeared with a cloth! I’m pleased to say though that when we mentioned the incident to a waiter he completed the task chattily and cheerily.
I want to see the original features of the building in an earlier life and not disappoint the hippodrome. I found the place clean and tidy, the staff cheerful and helpful and eating a good standard.
My husband took our two sons to drink tea. It was served, then asked to ID. Neither had it on them, but my husband gave that one was 19, another 16 (he had a coke). So were asked to go, even though just...served drinks! We will be back, not least, as the staff was very rude to my husband. Mr. Wetherspoon will take note of you as if you want it.
