The service was excellent and the food was even better than Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen in Edinburgh. The chef/chefs should be extremely proud of themselves. I tried the fish and chips and the penne bolognese during my stay, both of which were wonderful and full of flavor. Despite having a dairy intolerance, the staff were accommodating and provided dairy-free options such as ice cream, sorbet, and margarine at breakfast. They were all extremely friendly and willing to help with anything. My only criticism would be that the portion sizes at the restaurant were massive, which could result in potential food and money wastage as most people wouldn't be able to finish their meals. However, I would definitely return to the Horizons Restaurant if I stayed at the Bay Hotel again.
The balcony at this restaurant offers stunning views of Petticur Bay and The Forth all the way to Edinburgh, as featured on a TV program. However, it is unfortunate that they do not allow dogs in the outdoor seating areas. It seems like they are thriving, as they are able to turn down the large amount of business they could receive from the many dog owners who walk along the Fife Coastal Path nearby. We received a very brief and unsatisfactory answer when inquiring about bringing dogs onto the balcony. This policy is disappointing and does not reflect well on the establishment.
We were recommended to make a reservation and I am happy we did because the restaurant was busy and we had to wait a short time for our table. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. It was also good value for money and supported local suppliers. We both ordered the flat iron steak, which was perfect, and I will definitely return.
When we arrived, instead of a friendly welcome, we were immediately asked to put masks on. We explained we were both exempt. Then, after being invited into the main restaurant, instead we were then redirected to tables in the bar area. The table had not been cleaned from the previous diners and pieces of food were underneath. We also noticed a staff member sorting her long hair behind the bar. So, there you go, so much for their ominous 'Masks must be worn ' signage and supposedly strict anti-virus measures when they breach basic hygiene rules. We felt very unwelcome. We are a family with 2 young children and even they detected an unfriendly atmosphere from staff.
We live locally and on occasion like to visit the holiday park and enjoy the facilities on offer. It's always an enjoyable visit and we feel like we have been on a mini holiday for the day. Booked for a Sunday lunch with the family and we weren't disappointed. Everyone throughly enjoyed their food and felt it was superb value. In particular the kids menu. Steak pie and macaroni were great. Followed by a smashing sticky toffee pudding. All the classics done well here. It's great to see a local , family run business thriving.
