The restaurant has held a rosette for a few years and can be a bit on the pricey side. However, if you dine between 4pm and 6pm, you can enjoy a 20% discount on main dishes like we did. The lounge adjacent to the bar was a pleasant surprise with its glass ceiling and boat-like decor. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We started with the deep fried brie and redcurrant jelly, which was delicious. My main dish of sea bass with lemon beurre blanc, vegetables, and leek and potato mash was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. My partner enjoyed the beef stroganoff with rice, which had tender meat and a tasty sauce. We ended the meal with two desserts which were good, although the portions could have been a bit larger. Overall, it was a pleasant surprise and a great dining experience.
John McTaggart and his family run this hotel. He is also the race director for the Donkey Brae run and owns McTaggart's On The Road. The family is incredibly friendly and welcoming, making it easy and delightful to be vegan at their restaurant. The owners and the chef are very knowledgeable about vegan options, offering simple child-friendly dishes as well as more elaborate cuisine for adults. My child enjoyed vegetarian beans and chips, while I savored a delicious vegetarian curry with jasmine rice. They also offer vegan options like a spicy chickpea burger, salads, and fajitas. Non-alcoholic beer and vegetarian haggis are also available. The hotel, dating back to 1873, has a cozy atmosphere. The owners accommodated us without a reservation, seating us at a special table in the bar. I loved our meals and our stay. Thank you.
