Cataplana included lobster, monkfish and prawns, cooked in a garlic sauce. We sat outside on their terrace, sheltered in the sunshine and watched the world go by whilst enjoying this delicious traditional fish dish, highly recommended. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly,an all together lovely lunch.
We decided to eat at Restaurante Trancosense at about 3:30 PM on a weekday in late September. The place was empty because lunch time was winding down and the staff was beginning their preparation for the dinner hours, yet they welcomed us into the dining room to enjoy their food and service even though it was going to mean more work for them. My wife ordered the Shrimp Salad and I had the Stuffed Crab. To say the meal was fantastic would be an understatement. The staff acted treated us as welcome guests (yes we looked liked tourists) and went out of their way to help us understand the menu and the meal that was presented. The Tuna paté created by the chef (his own recipe) was incredible and I could have eaten that all day long. I simply cannot say more about the staff, the food, and the atmosphere; we sat next to a window and enjoyed the view of Claridade Beach in Figueria da Foz.
We go 5 times a year to Figueira. Every where we come we are well treated. Everybody is friendly. In this restaurant the chef recommended us the grilled linguade. Good fresh fish but very big. Normally, you eat 1 linguada with 2 persons. The portugese couple next to us get served 1 linguade. For us they brought 2!!! Too much,.... It cost us 99 EURO. Only fish and 1 carafe wine. nothing more. For this price you eat twice with the best fresh fish and dessert and coffe in Cacarole 1.
We found this restaurant whilst wandering around the town one evening. Being off season it isn't always easy to know if it is popular, as most places only have a few people eating in them, Anyway, we thought we would take a chance and we were certainly glad we did. We were welcomed in and there was an enormous choice of seafood plus quite a few meat dishes. Whilst we chose, we had entrees of whole giant prawns, tuna pate, olives, fish salad with fresh bread (a meal in itself). In the end we chose from the daily menu and it was very reasonable. I had the grilled turkey (which was pretty much a whole turkey breast) with rice, salad and homemade potato chips, my friends both had the beef steak, which turned out to be a whole rib steak each with similar accompaniments. After these enormous portions we only had room for ice creams and coffees which again were very good. My only negative comment would be about the over attentiveness of the staff, they were hanging around near the table which put us off a bit, it may just have been because it was quiet and they were eager to please. But at the end of the day it's just a minor irritation. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Asked for 2 doses of nacos à trancoso , 1 hour later we got the 2 doses with a non-hot stone and only 1 dose of side dishes and had to ask for the other one. We also found an hair in one of the meat.. After confronted the owner he spoke very badly to us, saying things like if it 's for this you should eat at home and turned his back away.. We had to ask for the complaints book. Very sad. Had been in that restaurant for many many years, and never seen this bad service.. I 'm never coming back!
