We came to fond du lac on a whim for an anniversary celebration, and we fell in love with the cellar district. Aside from the fun atmosphere of a church turned restaurant, the food is top notch! As a Chicagoan couple we love to eat! The sconnie burger.. thank me later! Melt in your mouth, crazy burst of flavor goodness. Thank you to the kitchen staff, Sam and the owners who made our drive home to Chicago so much better with our burger to go! We cannot WAIT to come back!
The place is beautiful, the waitress was a little off par. Kept forgetting things. The food was tasty but overpriced. I had a smash burger and ask for only one patty instead of 2 and they charged me the same price. It will be awhile before going back. We stopped here after a LONG day of driving and hiking with big appetites and the desire for a strong drink. The Cellar District is inside a repurposed church and it is spectacular (amazing, cool, chose your superlative). I don 't have an eye for design, but the interior design here is top notch. Many of the classic architecture was either repurposed or recreated to turn this into a restaurant. The bar especially, it looks like it belongs in a church with plenty of ornate wood and wrought iron. So cool! Seating was plentiful, and service was quick enough. It was a busy time, and they might have been short a server or two but everyone was hustling. The good: Lots of fresh menu items. The truffle cheese curds were probably the best I 've ever had. The peanut coleslaw bed beneath the ahi tuna was equally amazing. The coconut crusted sea bass was huge and largely delicious, although the coconut didn 't stand out. The less good: Drinks were weak in both spirits and flavor. I 'd skip the cocktails and go with beer if I were to come back. The bad: The first attempt at the sea bass was way way way undercooked. Raw in the middle, but immediately addressed by our server. Also two stalls in the women 's bathroom isn 't sufficient during the busy time (restaurant capacity is huge) and there was often a line. Definitely disappointing lows, as this was an amazing location, with amazing food options, amazing service, VERY reasonable prices, and amazing (although inconsistent) quality. If we were local we 'd definitely be back to try more on the menu. Despite some of the misses, we really enjoyed our visit and we would recommend this to nearly anyone (with a 'warning ' or two).
