Staffed by people who care because it's their place and not a massive corporate entity where they draw a paycheck. (Which is fine, and I have had great service at places like that, but there is a difference. I showed up mid afternoon when the place was empty and just ordered a quarter of a pizza. The cashier made it for me just like I was a party of twelve and we all wanted a whole pizza, in other words, quickly and with genuine courtesy. I don't get over this way very often but if I do I'll stop by again for sure, and you should do the same. You'll be glad you did!
At Helmer’s Country Store, you’ll find that they truly put the “country” in their Country Store. Littered with old trinkets and signs of bygone eras, the exterior readies the customer for the ambiance that awaits inside. As you walk through the entrance, you’ll immediately notice the musty-welcoming smell that is typical of old general stores. The bland concrete floor marred and scared from a past life, older than most of its patrons’ existence, greats you. Throughout the store, a cacophony of rusted signs, vintage memorabilia, and sparsely populated shelves transport you to this town’s long-past heyday. Experiencing such transcendence is worth the five-minute stop it takes to explore such a small-town find. However, if you’re in the mood to dive deeper into the rabbit hole of old town America, you can always have lunch. Among the usual homemade burger, fries, fried pickles, and sandwiches exist their daily special. From homemade cobbler and cornbread to fried entrees and locally procured vegetables, you cannot go wrong by experimenting with whatever flavor of daily special they may have. Unless you read this, I know there will be no reason for you to stop here. However, if you do read it, this provincial store is worth the causal stop for a passer-through, whether it’s for a cold bottle of Coke or a quick bite to eat.
EVERYONE NOTICE FOR YOUR OWN CONVIENCE if it 's 10 till consider them closed even if there is still a vehicle there because the register has more than likely been counted down and closed. I got there 5 till and they were closed, so I pulled my phone out real quick still standing near the door to see if Jones in Pioneer was still open and they came to tell me they were closed but still let me buy a pack of smokes with cash even though I came up a little short, I just have to remember to drop their . 70 cents off tommorow , so they close a little early which is a tad frustrating if you 're a tobacco user lol but most all stores these days do it as well so I won 't complain and leave 1 or 2 stars, just a heads up announcement to the public more than a review... pretty good lunch plates and PRETTY decent fountain cokes as in better than any typical chain gas station but GRACES #1st place (goodwill general) and TIGER STOP #2nd place still ahead of the game .. HAPPY I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CANCER STICKS AND BE GIVEN THE SMALL TOWN COURTESY OF COMING BACK TO PAY IN FULL TOMMOROW (wouldn 't of had to if the store was open till 6 like the time on Google advertises, but who knows if the owner put the time , I think a random person can add the time if it 's blank, how many people have read this far ? I bet one the workers mentions this rediculous reveiw before to Long
This charming little hometown restaurant offers Hunt's Brother's Pizza franchise, but also serves delicious home-cooked meals that are simply irresistible. The personalized service from the caring staff, who take pride in their establishment, sets it apart from larger chain restaurants. Despite arriving when the restaurant was empty and only ordering a quarter pizza, I was treated as if I were part of a large group, with quick and courteous service. I don't visit often, but when I do, I always leave satisfied. I highly recommend giving this place a try - you won't regret it!
The food was delicious and the staff was excellent.
