Elveden Estate - Forest Heath

We made a pit stop here on our way to Great Yarmouth and had a wonderful time browsing the shops before enjoying a delicious lunch in the courtyard. I ordered a toasted ciabatta sandwich which was excellent. The service was very good, although the prices were a bit high. However, since we had such a great time and were on vacation, we didn't mind. We felt that it was worth it for the overall experience.

My experience at the restaurant was disappointing. I went in for a takeaway coffee and cake, but the options in the dog cafe were limited and unappealing. I decided to check out the main restaurant for more choices, but was disappointed to find the selection there was just as lacking. To make matters worse, I only had cash on me and didn't realize they only accepted card payments. When I tried to cancel my order, a staff member who appeared to be a supervisor was extremely rude and condescending towards me. Despite apologizing, she made me feel unwelcome and rushed me out of the building. We have been loyal customers of this restaurant for years, but after this experience, we will not be returning. I expect better treatment and service when dining out, and being unable to make a purchase due to their payment policies is unacceptable.

I have visited this restaurant several times and it is usually a good halfway point for us. The food is typically okay, although a bit expensive. However, during a recent Sunday lunch visit, I had a terrible meal that I will remember for all the wrong reasons. The roast beef was mostly congealed fat, the lean meat was dried out, and the dish was drowned in a cheesy rosemary and leek sauce that covered the sparse vegetables, resembling vomit. The potatoes were ruined by a greasy gravy. The fish and chips were thin, with a crispy batter on the outside but a raw, floury mush on the inside. It seems like they need a new chef.

A group of four friends called in for lunch. We were welcomed by the friendly front of house team. We chose lunch from both the specials board and the normal menu. Our main meals were absolutely delicious, so much so we all decided to try a dessert. Fantastic! We will be back and soon. What a wonderful place.

We dropped in yesterday afternoon for a cup of tea and cake. We arrived at 3.20pm. On entering we were told that they were they could not serve us as they needed to clear up and leave at 4pm. We left but noticed a sign in the window that said they served tea and cake until 3.30pm. We went back in and mentioned that the sign said they served until 3.30 and it was only just past 3.20 at this point. The person went back into the kitchen and someone else came out and made a big deal about allowing us to be the last one of the day. Again the point was made that we only wanted a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Again the staff blamed the management saying they had to leave by 4pm. The place was not busy and I can see why if this in the attitude of staff. The cake was lovely and tea was good but the whole experience was ruined by the appalling customer service. We wouldn’t recommend I’m afraid.
