We had the Queso Fundido for an appetizer and it didn't have all that much flavor. All I really noticed about it was that it was hot and oily. And they don't give you nearly enough tortillas (not chips) to eat the queso. I had the Shrimp Enchiladas which again, was extremely oily and really only tasted like the big mound of sauteed onions and bell peppers that they put on top. My husband had the Roasted Relleno and even though he said it was good, it wasn't good enough to make him want to come back to eat it again. The atmosphere here is awesome and the service was good, we just wish the food was better. I don't think we'll make the effort to visit again any time soon.
Since I believe they are owned by the Owners of The Rio, why can't you get a Rio margarita? I had the House Marg, and didn't care for it.
This is our fourth or fifth visit to El Monte over the past year and while the others have been pretty good, this was the best. We had the Roasted Relleno and the Shrimp Enchiladas for dinners and all was excellent. The service was much improved from past experiences and we went away looking forward to the next visit.
Very interesting menu and delicious food. The meal started with salsa and tortillas. The tortillas were freshly made and delicious. We were expecting fried chips and instead they were simply warm tortillas. I had a pork chop with a roasted chile rellano. Excellent!! My husband and I are moving to Fort Collins and we will return to this restaurant.
We love El Monte's Happy Hour menu and stop in often for guac and soft tacos. Tasty and nicely presented.
