The restaurant has ample space, making it suitable for large groups, and there’s plenty of parking in the rear, which is a definite plus in my book. In terms of authenticity, I found ChengDu to be on par with other Chinese restaurants, making it unnecessary to venture to Queens or Chinatown for a similar experience. Overall, we had a fantastic time and enjoyed our meal at ChengDu in Franklin Square, NY. However, I would suggest the restaurant ease off a bit on the upselling, as it can negatively impact the dining experience. I definitely plan to return and try more dishes.
You absolutely have to try the Wonton in Chili Oil! If you love spicy food, this is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
I have gone to this restaurant twice. First time: great food and the waitress who was Indian was lovely 5/5. Gave a good tip too. Second time: horrible service. Horrible. I went for lunch and got a Asian waitress. She asked me what I wanted to drink. I said Diet Coke. She’s like I have Diet Pepsi. I said no thank you. And then she said okay okay I have Diet Coke. I will get it. When she brings my soup out next half of the soup is on the plate she brings it out in. It’s like she was in a rush to get things done, which I would have understood if the restaurant was packed. I was the only customer. Then she brings out my food, i had to ask Atleast 4 times for then sauces: hot sauce, soy sauce and duck sauce. And she’s kept saying oh you want that? Okay okay. I usually still like to leave a tip but I wasn’t happy with the service or the food this time. When i paid my bill, the waitress ran out to MY CAR and was like you didn’t leave me a tip. I said no I didn’t I wasn’t happy with the service I received. She’s like next time save your money blah blah. Honestly, save yourself a trip. The food was okay. Service is whatever. Plus I saw a rat running in the restaurant the second time I went there. So you never know about the hygiene of a place too.
Manager lied that her card system was not working to get cash, then suddenly offered card payment option when our tip for lackluster food was not as large as she had hoped. Admittedly we went for dim sum dishes at a Sichuan restaurant, but it does advertise these as made in house. I'm fairly sure they were, but they were pretty bad, as well. Best dish was from the normal menu. All were obscenely overpriced. If having this experience in a restaurant seemingly transported from mainland China circa 2000 while listening to some very nostalgic Taiwanese pop (my favorite part) sounds good to you, go ahead. The soundtrack may also include a manager yelling at her staff. A lot.
Dined in for dinner on a Tuesday. Restaurant was fairly empty and most customers were there to take-out. Good food and clean restaurant. Attentive servers. However, prices are considerably higher than competing restaurants. Parking lot in back is convenient.
