We had a fantastic lunch at Au Souper Fin. It was a quiet Monday slightly out of season but everything was quite perfect. Beautifully prepared food, lovely service and excellent value. We'd visited last 17 years ago, long before Trip Adviser existed, and it was a pleasure to find that the restaurant had thrived so well since then.
We chose this place to stay for the first night of our holiday as it was convenient for the Nehaven-Dieppe ferry and we always like to get the holiday off to a good start with a memorable meal. We made the perfect choice! The room was on the smallish side but clean and comfortable. This is definitely a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel with a restaurant. It is situated on the main road of the village but we were able to relax quietly in the garden and didn't experience any undue traffic noise during the night. The meal was excellent - imaginative tasty cooking with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. I would describe the style of cooking as contemporary but it is proper food - not lots of foam and froth! we chose from the menu de saison and had an exquisite pigeon dish for our main course and well kept cheeses instead of dessert. We would return if we were in this area and recommend it to friends. On a Monday evening it was busy and there were some local people in - always a good sign. We had 3 courses, lots of wine, coffees etc and the bill came to approx 160 euros.
This was a restaurant we had been meaning to go to for a while but it is a fair distance so it needed to be a lunchtime for us and it is, handily, close to Cleres and the Zoological Park. We had read the reviews and the knew it was good and it very much lived up to expectations. Wrongly we compared it to the Colombiers in Offranville which has 1 Michelin Star (Au Souper Fin is in Gault Millau but is not etoilé by Michelin) and that we go to a few times each year. The food is similar in style and consistency (delicious!) and the decor is calm, understated and high quality (very similar, if not better than the Colombiers). The welcome is delightful, the tables well-spaced and even on a friday lunchtime, there were a good number of diners. So far so good but we felt there was less of a choice than the Colombiers and the menus were somewhat more expensive >10 Eur per head more, in fact. It was still worth is but, given the price and the distance, this will be a special occasion treat only.Do go though, you will enjoy it
Our best meal after 7 years living partly in France. We were short of time so just had fish ( turbot for her and bar for me ) both of which , and their many small accompaniments , were cooked to perfection. Two excellent desserts to follow. Well worth a diversion.
