The whole ambience of the place says quality from the wonderful range of choice to the smart uniforms the staff wear. You would think it would be expensive but it caters to locals as well as tourists and is very reasonably priced. We love coming here every time we visit Madeira as it feels like we are coming home.
Always go here for morning chinesa and pastel da nata, plus purchase filled rolls to take on the plane when returning home. Great value for money.
A gem of a find when staying locally. This is a busy bakery with extra items freshly made throughout the day. Great selection of breads, pastries and cakes as well as made to order salads/ sandwiches. If you are looking for take away, stay and order at the counter. If you’re eating in, grab a menu from the counter, take a seat, relax and be patient. Wonderful coffee!
Great pastries, bread and coffee, however, over the years the staff generally have developed the ' no eye contact ' and 'let them wait ' features to a fine art. A queueing system does not exist and the service to the cafe at the rear of the shop take precedence over the shop counter. This year I was in the cafe for bread and cakes, no-one else in the shop and I waited to be served for about four minutes whilst 4 members of staff busied themselves behind the counter preparing sandwiches, making coffee etc. without a glance in my direction. When I was served with poor grace it was obviously a disturbance to their routine. But, each year we keep going there for our bread etc. and perhaps one day we may get a smile or two with good service.
Super bakery and cafe for light bites, cakes and pastries. I think we went here almost everyday of our holiday for something, because the food is delicious as well as a good price. We enjoyed freshly made tuna sandwiches and cakes to enjoy in the cafe but often just a simple cheese roll. The latter is so cheap at under €2 this is definitely a holiday hack pop in on your way out for the day and ask for it to takeaway. Agree with other reviews that the queue system is a bit weird. Guests are unclear whether to order at the counter or table and then queue to wait to pay.
