Dining solo, I opted to sit on the open patio and enjoyed the lovely weather while eating in the sunshine. The restaurant offers parking, has a casual atmosphere, great music, and is very comfortable for solo diners. The staff were friendly and efficient, adding to the enjoyable atmosphere. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and beans and slaw, followed by warm coconut pie with cream, and it was absolutely amazing! Every bite was worth it, and I wish I were staying in town another night so I could try the ribs too! Thank you to the Black Pearl Creole Kitchen for a memorable dining experience!
First, the food is good. No problems on that score. The portions aren't huge though and it is pricey. It is in the middle of nowhere though so understandably not cheap. The issue we had was the service. We arrived as a big group of seven in a town where there are not a great many options for food. They asked us to order in advance which was fine but on arrival, they said the order had never come through, yet I had placed it over the phone directly with them 24 hours earlier! It was duly found and we were given a table and asked for some drinks order at the counter was the response. OK fine the place is nice and looks like a restaurant but if you order at the counter and are expected to clear your table before you leave, then really, it is a takeaway with a few tables. Even that is okay. But what lets it down really badly is the two young lads behind the counter. At best, they look like they would rather be somewhere else and everything feels like hard work as a result. One of the guys seemed to serve no useful purpose apart from choosing the music on his iPad, pausing momentarily to grunt a reluctant answer when asked for something. Really poor, as was his decision to wolf down his Chinese takeaway on the counter as we left! His colleague is a little better but not much. The slightest thing seemed like it was too much to ask. All that said, the waitress who despite the big sign on the wall saying clear your own table, did exactly that for us and was very helpful indeed. Lovely in fact. My advice to the owners would be to become a restaurant, let the two guys who are front of house go, put the girl who was front of house in charge of service and hire in a decent colleague for her who has experience from a good restaurant. I am not saying we did not enjoy our meal, just that this is a place with so much potential that could be brilliant with a bit more polish applied to the service side of things.
This is not my first visit to this fantastic Authentic cuisine restaurant, The food here is breathtaking we had the ribs melt off the bone, along with superb Jerk Chicken Wings with rice peas and the fab house slaw , this is such a fabulous dining experience, Highly recommend you will be blown away with all the flavors of the Carribean.
What a pleasant surprise to find a Caribbean restaurant and takeaway in Gairloch. This was my first experience of eating Creole food and it was absolutely delicious . The owners are really friendly and chatty. A great overall experience, will definitely go back.
Absolutely stunning food as soon as you set foot in the door it smells amazing, and the food lives up to expectations. We had jerk chicken, chickpea curry and mac and all were excellent. Add the friendly service into the mix and it doesn't get much better.
