We stopped for a light lunch at Isla Baja Bar Cafeteria. I had Spanish omelette which is the worst rendition of that dish I believe I have ever tasted. It was stodgy and powdery. Horrible! Considering we are in Spain, this is a particularly damning indictment. My wife ordered a ham and cheese sandwich that was creatively, but misleadingly, described as Croque Monsieur. Although the bread in Spain is delicious, she was given two slices of British-style 'cotton wool ' bread that has been warmed up, but not toasted. The bread was still white, but dry. Inside were the thinnest slices of ham and cheese imaginable. Indeed, I wonder what tool they used to create slices so thin they were transparent. We were also given a handful of melba toast in a basket that we did not ask for and did not eat, only to then find that we were charged EUR €2.00. It is not a huge sum of money, but it is a rip off and I abhor the principle of crummy restaurants routinely taking money from unsuspecting tourists in this suspect fashion. When it came time to pay I proffered a credit card. The waiter pressed all the buttons after I had entered my secure code and asked him to translate the instructions thereafter on the hand-held credit card terminal. When it came to selecting whether to pay in Euros or Sterling he pressed Sterling GBP without even asking me what my preference was. I was not pleased since paying in one 's own currency in foreign lands inevitably results in a lousy exchange rate. I was charged a a rate of €0.99 whereas paying in Euros at another outlet the same day resulted in an exchange rate of €1.15. Quite a substantial difference! We would not return and do not recommend this restaurant. It gets business only because of its nice aspect and pavement seating. I would caution potential diners against being cheated by the staff at Isla Baja Bar Cafeteria in Garachico, Tenerife.
Service was really welcoming And attentive, the tea I ordered was well presented in a filter cup, the burger I had was likely hand made and delicious. I had a great view and enjoyed the vibe. Would recommend. Not to pricey either.
We drove through this town and this place was the only one that was open! We ordered sandwiches for the whole family (baguettes and sandwiches) and all of the were great. The kids loved it. We had also homemade fries and they were really good. We loved the feeling and the passion the owner had.
Not an enjoyable lunch. Stopped here fo some tapas Iberico ham was chewy and thick, mushroom and vegetables tapas was too salty and bitter. There are many far better places to eat locally.
