J T Basque Dining Room - Gardnerville

They apparently don't want customers. Google shows one set of hours, their website shows another, their sign outside AND greeting when you call both say dinner begins at 4pm. We came in at 4:30 based on the instructions on their recorded message and the woman was rude and acted like we were idiots for coming in before 5pm. On our way out I looked at their sign thinking I took crazy pills but it still said 4pm for dinner. Clearly they didn't want our business so we called Louis' Basque in Reno, made a reservation for 5:30pm and enjoyed an amazing dinner at a restaurant that appreciated our business.

Most delicious food , service was excellent!!! We are from out of town but every chance we get we stop here to eat . This is our 4th time and never disappoints !!!

We've been enjoying coming here annually for a while, modulo recent fire and covid disruptions. The experience is a hearty, family style meal rather than high cuisine. The service and all have been excellent each visit. Another good one Aug 2023.

The JT is the iconic historic restaurant in the Carson Valley! The building was a brothel in Virginia City and in 1869 it was sold and then physically moved by rolling it on logs to Gardnerville! It has been a Basque restaurant and hotel for generations of Basque sheep herders. Now days it is a restaurant with family style traditional Basque food, delicious!! Make sure and go here hungry, they serve you so many dishes! The service is impeccable! The bartender Monica is so friendly, knowledgeable, and excels at doing many things at one time. This is a Caraon Valley experience that cannot be missed!

Went here a while back while home on leave. The food was exquisite! I got the steak sandwich and fries. The steak was super tender and flavorful. The fries were seasoned to perfection. Overall great food with great service and atmosphere!
