No fancy restaurant but what you get in your plate is tasteful and well prepared. Just what you wish to find to have a great dinner Wine was amazing with a viognier from Marquis Pertuy
Found this place via Tripadvisor. Not disappointed. No disappointments with good service. Steak was fantastic and octopus was really fresh. Well worth the short drive from Apt.
This restaurant is well situated for travellers in Le Chêne, a short diversion off the D900 between Avignon and Apt. There is free parking on the opposite side of the road. The building is not very attractive from the outside. Some weeding could have been done to cheer it up. In good weather there is a terrace carpeted with ‘astroturf’. We ate inside on what seemed like an average day – the restaurant was half-full. NB it is closed at weekends and obviously caters for local business people as well as passing tourist trade. It is an eating-place in the bistro tradition, with a friendly ambiance and a pleasant welcome. Service could be quick if you were in a hurry. As there is an ‘echo’ the room could be noisy if many tables are occupied. The set menu is €24 for three courses, €20 for two, with an à la carte choice of about five dishes per course. My wife started with ox tongue on a bed of lentils. This was enough for a main course in itself! The meat was not tender however and she struggled with it before giving-up and cancelling her main course. My main course was sea-bream, well-cooked, on couscous with a few spring vegetables in it. Desserts were good but pre-prepared for quick service. The wine list is locally based and reasonably priced. We thought the meal was a bit over-priced in view of the fact there were none of the little extras one can often have at that price-level, such as something to nibble with apéritif, or ‘amuse-bouche’ for example. One point worth mentioning is that no comment was made when my wife didn’t finish her dish. The meal though perfectly acceptable did not really measure up to the gushing comments made in several languages by some reviewers.
Agree with others that it’s hard to find, but absolutely worth the effort! We had a wonderful dinner, reasonably priced. Excellent service. This is a keeper!
