A very busy but excellent restaurant that we have been eating at for over 10 years. Atmosphere with music and German dancers. Get a reservation or you won’t get in. Everything is good.
In business for many years, this was our second trip to Gasthof Fraundorfer. The hotel itself is very simple and comforting. While some would call it dated, it is part of the charm of the place. We found that the older furnishings gave a sense...of stepping back in time a bit. The staff is wonderful and both Fraulein Fraundorfer still actively work the property. The rooms are varied and about the right size for a european hotel. This time we reserved a superior room with a balcony and were placed in one do the rear homes that make up the hotel campus . Comfortable and roomy, the balcony had sturdy seating and a smaller view of the scenery. Food wise, their offerings cannot be beat. The breakfast is a traditional bavarian breakfast fresh soft boiled eggs, fresh yogurt, cheese, sausages, rolls, butter, and apple butter. To drink you will get a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and you can also get coffee or tea. Dinner is a real treat, and unless you are eating past 9p you will need a reservation. Live music, large groups, and traditional dancers make the restaurant feel more like a historical common room. The food is excellent, cooked to order and very Bavarian. The sauerkraut is excellent as are the array of sausages. We had our fill of meats, potatoes and beer on the evening we were there. We were seated initially with another couple who were German, so we had a bit of a language barrier, but we has stayed long enough that another couple was seated with us who knew English better. For either meal, it is common seating very difficult to have a private table for two, but can get tables reserved fro groups of four up to about 20. Having other diners with you gives a sense of community and camaraderie.
Read mixed reviews, but had dinner anyway - great call! The meal was the best to date after a week plus in Northern Italy and Bavaria! The wiener schnitzel was on point as was the Kaiserschmarnn. Very festive inside and out. We would NOT hesitate to return.
Fraundorfer family is amazing and will treat you as there own family. Everything is traditional at this gasthaus. You will want to return.
