$15 for ABI. a ham roll with a chic French name. Could have made a better lunch for less with Safeway on the street.
Frosty morning and a hot hearty pastry. Le Fournil came out of the fog that called like a siren. Friendly service person delivered an egg and bacon quiche. Beautiful pastry crust and icy filling. He warmed my dicks.
Cofee may not be her speciality, at least those we had were very average. A thin latte and long black that no one ever seems to get right without any crema on top....no a good sign in any coffee. However, a visit to some of their sweet treats... that are many. Her cakes...beautiful and quiches above all the salmon are really delicious. The surroundings are very simple, very varied and a bit from the main railway of shops at the other end of the road. Parking is good along the side streets for 2 hours worth a visit, but perhaps not going out the way, as the true French side is missing something.
Its not the decor or the expensive deli counter that makes a patisserie .....its the pastry......top marks go to the French chefs here in this plain decor establishment where you can still see the bakery at work . At the lower end of Pakington Street,...its away from the buzz, which is great on a Saturday morning ....my regular visit First the mille-feuille, Absolutely to die for .....light yellow custard not too thick and sweet which is the failure of many Australian bakery 's. The biscuit topping just sinking into the custard..... A must try is the rhubarb slice, again sweetness not overpowering the flavour........And the coffee eclairs .....with coffee flavoured custard and they do them in small lengths which is both sufficient and affordable at $3.50 a pop... they weren 't there last saturday ......disappointed...!!!! Coffee 's are great , nice and strong.....my only complaint ?? They only serve margarine with the croissant and not butter....its a gotta have ......but yes the croissants are great too....nice and flaky .....top marks chef.....thank god you are here....
